Washer Maintenance Use the right
amount of detergent for your washer and your area's water
hardness. Check the hoses periodically for wear. Make sure the
feet are level. And don't overload your washer with clothes.

Washers Leaks around a washing machine often indicate a
loose or broken hose or connection.
Once you've eliminated the possibility of wet, dripping clothes
or a water spill, check the fittings where the hoses connect to the
faucets and the back of the machine.
1. |
Look for worn or leaky hoses. |
2. |
Tighten couplings or hose clamps. |
3. |
Replace hoses if necessary (turn the water off before
removing hoses and have a bucket handy so you can drain them).
|
4. |
If it still leaks, call a repairperson to fix what might
be a faulty basket gasket or tub seal and bearing.
|
Because washing machine hoses are under constant pressure, they
can flood your home if they burst when you're away. If you need to
replace a hose, install "no-burst" stainless-steel mesh hoses to
prevent serious damage that can occur if a hose bursts when you're
out of the house. Another precaution you can take is to install
lever-type shutoff valves (see illustration at left). With these,
you can easily turn off the water between wash days.
